There was a skinhead site long ago on the Internet, called "www.unitedskins.com". Cca. 20 years ago it was the best possibility for me, a young Eeastern-European to find relevant informations on foreign WP bands, because there were only a few NS zines I could buy. The site had a great CD review section with short mp3 samples from every reviewed material and I heard No Alibi for the first time there, if I'm not wrong. It was a beginning of a long journey, I still love the bands music a lot, for me the No Alibi album "Back for Blood and Soil" was on the same rank as the classic Bound for Glory albums, but I really loved the split with Brainwash and their first disc, "Wickedness of mankind" too. Not so long (maybe 2 years) ago I saw a Russian interview with Chris and Jon (lead guitarist and bassist of NA) on my current favourite site, Right Hardcore Crew. I was extremly happy that they are still active and working so I decided to make a Hungarian and English interview for my zine too. The time for this is now!
1., Hi Chris and Jon! First of all let me say a big thank You (and to our friend Lars for his help to get in contact with You) for the opportunity to make this interview possible, I'm really happy that You're still active. Is No Alibi active too? Are there plans to return on stage to play gigs?
C.: The Honour is all mine my Brother as my fathers forbears came from the Carpathian Mountains just North Of Hungary, so I always wanted to see my fatherland, hopefully some day I will. I am just getting back into completing our Final Album, “THE FOLK OF BRUTAL WILL” and yes after we complete NO ALIBI’s Album and Sjöfn Wulf we will be in Europe.
J.: We are starting to work on new music and play shows through out Europe in 2020.
2., You and No Alibi are the part of our musical history, You were amongst one of the first (if not the first) WP HC Band. Please tell us about the history of the band! How and when did You start No Alibi? Were there other WP in bands in Buffalo?
C.: I cannot start without our start of when I met Brian so here is a intro on our STRICT ASCENDING ORDER start in 1986... (This Album is Released in 2020 with insert from AMERICAN DEFENSE RECORDS) . It's 1985, in the pit at a Black Flag show in Bflo.N.Y., where myself, Chris Gawlick (Guitar) and Brian Kirchner (Vocals) first met. Somehow, a 15 year old kid (me) got into the beer keg in the venue. Every time I circled the pit, I would make it a point to fuck with the BIGGEST, BADDEST looking fucker, ready to fight (knocking them down or with an elbow to the chest). Upon my 3rd circle is where Brian took out his brass knuckles and clocked me cold, laying my ass out on the pit floor! Haha... After seeing stars for a few minutes, I got up, went and shook his hand (out of respect) for having enough balls to be a brawler (like me)! I felt there was a unique energy and connection
there that would become something different, We were now friends.
After this, we went to Metal, Hardcore and Punk shows together. Soon after meeting Eric Rice (Bass) and Scott MacDonald (Drums) at a local Hardcore punk show, S.A.O. was born. By summer of 1987, we were active. The band
name was originally to be called VEX. Pretty soon we had a full set with our political right-wing concept (contrasting the punk rockers left wing views). We changed the name of the band to STRICT ASCENDING ORDER (S.A.O.) .Our "THE NEW ORDER" demo would stamp our more extreme views into the New York underground music
scene. We recorded this 10 song demo at Select Sound Recording Studios (Elmwood ave. In Buffalo, NY) for $219.
That was a lot of money for us kids to pull together! It took about 14 hours to record, mix & master. Selling the tape at our shows, we were considered one of the TRUE hardcore bands in Western New York. One show had us sandwiched between Youth Of Today (who opened!) & Warzone.
After we played, both Raybeez and the guitar player of Warzone were FURIOUS that we played "I hate the kids" by STATE OF ALERT (early D.C. hardcore band with Henry Rollins as their singer), dedicating it to the communist kids! They wanted to fight us (being the pussies they were, it never came to a brawl). It should have (as I still HATE THOSE FILTHY COMMIES)!!!! Keep in mind, every time Warzone played Buffalo, they would have morphed into a different facet of punk. One show they were Skinheads., then discovered straight edge,then OI, then crossover, etc. Maybe they were in denial or just hadn't realized what side of the fence they were on at the time. Regardless, we got what we wanted...a REACTION!!!! As the winter months of 1987 rolled in, “severing the unity “ of the past became the new regime: a decade of malevolence;
FEAR!
PRIDE!!
PATRIOTISM!!!
and sinister brotherhood... that is another story...
J.: I joined NO ALIBI in February of 1994 after my band CYST broke up and it has really been an honor to be a part of something so relevant and important for so long.
3., I know that You played in Strict Ascending Order before No Alibi. Could You tell us more on that band? Was Strict Ascending Order also WP? Did You have other bands before No Alibi? Do You have any story behind the No Alibi logo?
C.: About the logo: me and Brian in 1987 Winter were at his house and he had a aluminum fishing bat for bashing Sharks. We call race mixers SHARKS “MUD SHARK “ and Brian used to hit commies on the head when we played live! His bat actually had blood on it! So I told Brian I would create a Battle Mace logo but our first NO ALIBI logo had the FIST, BUSTING thru the "O". the I designed had the Medieval BATTLE MACE. We still use the Original Backdrop to today. True Story...

4., There were rumors that You played with the legendary death metal band Cannibal Corpse together. Is this true? Were You/Are You in contact with them?
C.: Cannibal Corpse opened for NO ALIBI at the ACCUSED gig (see pictures and flyer) I believe this was the debut of CC and yes we are friends. Me and Jon have always been closest to Alex. Glen Benton from Deicide is from Niagara Falls and his mom has T-shirt’s for us. It was funny as his mom pulls out this Satanic shirt for my Bass player Jon, says “Glen wanted me to give you this” haha. Malevolent Creation did a song called THEY BREED.
With Bret Hoffmann from Malevolent Creation we all hung out, we were friends but he got Cancer and died. He made the song THEY BREED. At 2:22 start the last verse

J.: One of the first times I saw NO ALIBI perform was when they played with the Accused and Cannibal Corpse,kinda funny how things work out ,I went from spectator to full blown participant.
5., As You are from New York State, I think You had strong relations with the hardcore scene from NY and its neighborhood. Did You have contact with "mainstream" HC bands, like Warzone, Agnostic Front, etc.?
C.: Youth of Today opened for SAO in 1987 WARZONE headlined that gig. We played with Agnostic Front a few times and into the late 90’s Roger would always put out Crucified to us. We played our ROCK-O-RAMA RECORDS Release Party Of WICKEDNESS OF MANKIND with AGNOSTIC FRONT. It was only AGNOSTIC FRONT and NO ALIBI at this show see pictures notice all THE AMERICAN FRONT colors that was Kevin our last singer and Crew
6., We can see a lot of pictures from the 80's - 90's NYHC scene on the net, where famous musicians (eg. Freddy from Madball) wear RAC themed shirts, we can see sometimes flyers with RAC themed graphics, even Biohzard had some "racist" songs in the past, etc. Nowadays the bands and the people there distance themselves from WP and are mostly leftists, however there are tons of photos where we can see the opposite. Was the American HC scene always red? What do You think on this topic?
C.: I took these pictures personally I was right on stage with Roger and MadBall when he was a kid, this is the youngest age ever when he got his brother into music. You are the first to ever see these pictures. We started SAO then.
Everything back in the 80’s made more sense than today to me anyway. As everyone knew where your politics lay but somehow had we all stood together as a united Front against the System that kept all of us down, it’s ironic that me and Brian met at a BLACK FLAG concert with RISE ABOVE unleashing passion.
7., It's a boring question but could be interesting in the case of No Alibi: what were and what are Your main musical inspirations?
C.: This may sound strange but I personally just allow my inner instincts to guide the three part always ending where the song began to give the impression that you have been taken on a Universal journey and let’s you off inspired for the greater good. I never allowed myself to sound like any other bands although I did steal the flatted fifth called “The Devils Note” from Randy Rhodes and Goblins theme at the end of “Short End Of The Stick” other than a few examples SAO was heavily influced by HC bands like RAW POWER, INDIGESTI, HERESY, LARM, I loved punk and just started getting into Oi and Metal.
J.: At the earliest stages of my interest in learning to be a musician started with KISS, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and after I started playing I was overtaken by bands such as Metallica, Venom, SLAYER, Exodus, Flotsam and Jetsam,Death,Crumbsuckers,D.R.I but Reign in Blood was released and it changed everything for me,it should me that you don't need to follow rules or traditional music structure and that the whole art of extreme metal was going to take over and change forever with Death Metal and Grindcore and Black Metal.
8., How was the American WP/RAC scene back in the 80s-90s? I think it had a lot of differences between the European movement and it could be very interesting for us to learn on it more!
C.: FIGHT FOR FREEDOM from CA, Doc Martin, Youth Defense League from NYC the Philly crews like Arresting Officers, NEW GLORY and Ed with Bound For Glory in MN and NO ALIBI NY in 1987 was really the start in my opinion.
J.: The late 80's 90's and the early part of 2000 the American scene looked like it was going to explode until we started touring in Europe,the scene there blew my mind with the great organization and the large turn outs and we have always hoped that would spread out to our country as well.
9., No Alibi had a long break after the release of the split with the German Band Brainwash. What was the reason for this?
C.: Brian our singer decided to leave the band for Religious reasons. He became a Baptist Minister and is happy with a family. We are still friends and I know he still feels the same way as he did in the 80s we see if I can light a fire under his ass the same way I did to get him to start SAO with me! Haha 😂 I have a gift to anger people to violence! Haha 😂
J.: Life gets in the way of things sometimes and I have another band NOT A PRAYER that is a prog-grindcore-death metal band that I have been working on since 2004 and we are finally going to have some new music as well,it feels great to be working on new NO ALIBI music as well,it feels amazing that NO ALIBI is still relevant after all this time and we will not disappoint.
10., I read on the Internet (and on Your deleted YT chanel) that there is a new full length album in progress with the title "The folk of brutal will". Could You tell us some words on it? When will it come out? Do You have a label for it?
C.: Yes, THE FOLK OF BRUTAL WILL will hopefully be complete in 2020. I’m trying to have Brian return for a final NO ALIBI Album. This Album will be like our past 3 you will be taken off your feet. Expect the unexpected. I always liked unpredictability and a Paradoxical lyrical dance with emotional sabotage. This will be my masterpiece.
J.: All I can say at this time about the 'Folk of Brutal Will's as it will be heavy as fuck and Brutal with that NO ALIBI flair that we bring to the table .
11., As far as I know, Brian the original vocalist of No Alibi is not active anymore in the scene and his successor is inactive too. Are there any public informations who will take over the microphone?
C.: Like I said expect the unexpected. Have you ever heard of our 3 inner worlds? We all have the Holy See or Trinity within us. This is the best answer to your question without giving you a direct answer. It will be the trinity come to life. I want the final product to be if a higher power delivered thru the Trinity of old school morphed into one UNITED FRONT! The vocals will be something great and promise to exceed any expectations...
J.: Myself and Chris are going to be doing the vocals and bring a more natural element to the overall sound.
12., I read in an earlier interview with You that You had a project to make a tribute to Richard Wagner with No Alibi. Is this "The folk of brutal will"? Or it was another idea? Do You take inspiration from classical music too?
C.: Yes, Sjöfn Wulf is SIEGFRIED, Richard Wagners 3rd Opera I’m doing 9 songs as there is 88 pages of lyrics. Breaking this all down to 9 songs with Metal/HC music getting key people involved international is a big undertaking. This is a Love story but it includes betrayal, the Gods, the evil Interests power struggle and a Fearless that casts Odin himself aside to reach the top of the Mountain Breaking Odin’s Ring Of Fire around the most beautiful women in the Universe, Odin’s Daughter Brunhilde. Both Siegfried and Brunhilde Laughing embracing each other they both laugh knowing the Ring returns to the Earth. Goddess Erde stopping the suffering caused by the Evil Wickedness of Mankind.
13., As You were involved since the very beginning into the American HC scene, I'd really want to know : what does hardcore mean for you? And what is hardcore? Just a musical style or something more?
C.: Hardcore is a thought or instinct that has a Destiny OF ITS OWN that is FEARLESS. Just like Siegfried, true HARDCORE is unstoppable even from ODIN. Look at us old Fuckers, I just turned 50 I’m not done. Hardcore is knowing your outnumbered and still moving forward into the fire knowing you May die for your brother and being at peace with HATE! That is HARDCORE.
J.: Even though I'm more from the 'Metal' school of doing things I have always respected and liked hardcore because it's just not a genre it is a way of life as well.
14., In the last years the American scene is almost dead - from my point of view. Is this a valid statement? How do You see the situation of the American WP movement?
C.: There is none as far as I can see. Ed is still going strong. Jason from XIV SACRED WORDS is going strong. And we will be coming back but it’s hard as hell to maintain a lasting band and line up. Or groups. I would say Trumps Victory lifted THE USA out the Abyss like a Phoenix from the Ashes. Caused a lot of our people to see where the line is drawn where we as Americans say enough is enough. My Freedoms are worth fighting for, we all despite our nationality should FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM, RACE AND NATION. with forward movement respect and Camaraderie with Allied forces.
15., Besides No Alibi there were other well known NSHC bands in the 90's, like Blue Eyed Devils, Angry Aryans, H8machine, etc. Were the top US bands in contact with each other? Did You hear each others music?
C.: Sure we were all as one. I never met Dennis from H8Machine but maybe in the future. That’s one thing that made NO ALIBI very different than any other RAC band we played for all factions, you name it we played for them we even played for AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL! Haha We horrified them until they pulled the plug because our fans were beating the J. promoter and the leftists haha. That was 1989.
16., What is your opinion on President Trump? Reds really hate him, but do WP people support him?
C.: Every American supports him, I’m making 22% on my 401k even if you hate him they secretly love him! He will go down as AMERICANS GREATEST POTUS OF ALL TIME! I Love Trump. I have my executive member card and his telephone number in my phone in NYC as when he originally ran he was using his number in Trump Tower in NYC. Jon our bass player actually worked for Trump on his Campaign and Trump thanked him and shook his hand. It GREAT times we are living and I’m happy to put foot to ass for this POTUS!
J.: I LOVE TRUMP,I voted for him and I will gladly do so again and I support and believe in the man,the snowflake liberals have been losing their rodent sized mines ever since he won the election in 2016 and I'm loving every minute of it but at the same time the Democratic party is emploding on its self instead of doing the jobs that they are paid for crying over a loss that they just refuse to accept, come the 2020 elections they will lose even more ground and hopefully fall of the face of the Earth lol
17., As the multiculturalism is the part of everyday life in the US and the educational system demonizes everything what is related to NS, I think it must be an interesting story, how a white kid becomes NS. How gets an average American person involved into the NS movement?
J.: For me I would have to say that I saw how things were becoming with society and growing up in the 70's - 80's race was in issue in the schools I attended so the choice for me was obvious and I'm grateful for this way of life choosing me and I make no apologies for anything I have said,done or will do when duty calls.
18., How average Americans look at the WP/NS message? Do You think that the message of the WP Bands can reach them?
J.: I have always believed that music is a great way to spread the word but nowadays they label anyone that has republican or conservative values a Nazi or racist makes the message that we are trying to get across as a hard negative instead of the honest reality of our people's cause in the corrupt ideology that they are pushing on our citizens and our youth through false press and the liberal school system
You asked for “regular people” I had a SS friend that passed away tell me these people were doomed as they are the “Lemmings of society” or as he called them “Suburban White Asses” they take a position of the left brainwashed by Communist propaganda like the poison of the mainstream media.
19., Do you follow the current worldwide NS scene? Are there any NS(HC) bands You'd recommend us to check?
C.: I really love Brainwash,Terrorsphära, Blutzeugen, YOU MUST MURDER, Aryan Brotherhood, XIV SACRED WORDS, BURN DOWN, SPQR, Übermensch ect... and look for Sjöfn Wulf!
20., The usual question: do You know anything from the Hungarian movement?
C.: No bring us and teach my old ass as I’m always learning and most of the time THE HARDCORE WAY! Haha
21. Do you see other political movements that can stand the test of time for Traditional values to elevate all races of that country without division but united for a greater good?
C.: Yes, it’s happening now in the USA and the UK you must get those traitors out of office ... EUROPE AWAKE! FIGHT FOR FREEDOM !
