Green Arrows Interview, English version

As there were no interviews on this blog with Italian bands yet, we got the idea to get in contact with the guys of Green Arrows from Bolzano, who answered our questions with lightspeed (they answered us on the same day we sent the questions them, so they earned the fastest NSHC band award from the staff of our blog). As no Hungarian 'zine made an interview with them earlier, we hope we can help to spread the message of Green Arrows within Hungary and by the help of the English interview, the rest of the world will know the music and ideas of this top band.

1., Please let me introduce the band! Who are the members?

Also the band is born in 1999 in the city of Bolzano (Italy), our city had a very interesting HC Heritage, and we are son of that movement. The actual line-up of the band is composed by Pav (voice), Marmo (rhythm guitar + choirs), Migue (lead guitar + choirs), Divi (bass + choirs) and Dave (drum)

2., You play mostly with political bands, but if I read over the texts of Green Arrows, I do not find there too much political content. Is Green Arrows a political band? Could you describe your views? Do You support any political organization?

As band we support all organizations that fights for our cause, as single members we are all militant/activist/supporters of CasaPound Italia.
Coming back to our lyrics: we won't to be "one band of many", we like to give the aestethicts of the message trough metaphores and concepts, without being explicit.
For us this has a huge artistic value, and, in the meantime, can reach a larger public. In the end, the music is a tool for spreading to the higher number of person our cause, and in that way, we think, we will have a better diffusion.

3., I saw on the net that the band was founded in 1999. and released 2 cd's at the label Vacation House Records, then you changed to Black Shirts Records, now to PC Records with Your newest album. Why the changes? Were You not satisfied with the earlier labels?

The theme is very different between the leaving of VHR and BSR.
In 2009 we left VHR (Vacation House Records) because we weren't happy of their work, the won't really support bands, but only gain money on them.
This year we left BSR (Black Shirts Records) with a common agreement. We are very happy of the support that BSR gave to us in these years, we will be always grateful to Sandro, but both have different aims.

4., By the way, Black Shirts Records. Are they still around?

Yes, but at now changes a little its target.

5., The hardcore You play is not really common in Italy, as far as I know. Why did You choose that direction?

Since the band was born, we Always tried to search something new, uncommon, sometimes with good results, sometimes with bad results.
But, we won't do something common, as wrote before, we won't be "one band of many"

6., Are You in contact with the local mainstream hardcore scene? Aren't they hostile because You play with rightwing bands?

Not so much. Being more accurate, with the old kids of the local scene we have a good report, with the gig's organizers/labels/agencies there is a terrible report. They hate us, not only because we are from the right side, but because we "did it" without having their help.

7., Are You making gigs for Yourselves or You get help from gig organisers?

Unfortunatelly when we closed the MAS250 (location of the BSR Contest) and the Hobbit Pub (another location of a friend of our crew) we just organize only small gigs

8., I saw several times on Your webpage mentioning "U-BOOT 37 Registrazioni". Could You introduce us this initiative?

It is our rehearsal/recording studio. It is a project we put on with the guys of No Prisoner. We recorded a lot of band of all the nation and other local artists of all the music genres.

9., Years ago there was a big NSHC event in Bolzano, with bands like Drizzatorti, Still Burning Youth, Green Arrows, No Prisoner, Ribelli d'Indastria, etc.. I was there too, with two friends of mine from Hungary, we really enjoyed the event. We met You (Pav) there in person and it looked like for us that You were one of the organisers of that gig. Do You plan to make any similiar HC parties in the future? There were plans to release that concert on DVD. Is this not actual anymore?

Yes I was one of the culprits!!! Unfortunatelly, as wrote before, we see no possibility to organize something so big in the near future. Yes, there was a DVD in plan of the concert, but unfortunatelly we had a huge problem with the audio files of the night and so we give up the project.

10., I saw a lot of updates on the net from Your upcoming CD, "Live.Love.Burn.Die.". Could You tell some words about the upcoming release? When will it come out?

It is our 7th full album. It will be a concept album with a story that goes throught the songs. It will be divided in three chapters (my path, my roots, my war). Let check the article on our webpage (https://greenarrowshc.wordpress.com/2018/07/18/live-love-burn-die-track-list-concept-of-the-album/) about the complete track list and the concept behind the chapters.

11., Your lyrics are mostly in English, that is not a common thing amongst Italian bands. Why did You choose English?

Same reason as above, our music has to be a tool for our cause, and the english Language is world wide understood. Italian not.

12., Bolzano/Bozen has a huge ethnic German population. Aren't there tensions between Italians and Germans because the "South-Tirol question"?

Here not so much (being honest, never had here in Bolzano). The problems now are others.

13., There was a very good band in Bolzano years ago, called "No Prisoner". Are they still active?

We shared the U-Boot37 projects with the NP guys. Now they are in pause (as band), but always active in the crew.

14., I saw several videoclips from Green Arrows which were very professional. Who edited the videos? Will You make a new video for the new album?

The old videos were made by the Studio Zem, now the last were made with the collaboration of "L'ombra del suono" for the schenograpghy, lights and location and Luca Massagrande for the takes, direction and editing. Both are very good friend of us and our crew.
There is a project with the guys of "L'ombra del suono" to follow us as sound engineer in all our concerts across Europe.... let see what will happen.

15., 6-7 years ago there were several NSHC bands in Italy, nowadays the scene there looks like to be a bit inactive. Are there any new bands which You would recommend us?

You wrote perfect, inactive. One of the most interesting project was "Mai Morti" but I think they are in "pause".

16., Are there any future plans with the band? Maybe samplers, 7" releases, etc?

Our next target is the release of the re-print of some old works with some unpublished versions.... when there will be something ufficial we will spread it from our social channels.

17., What is Your opinion about downloading music from the Internet? Do You collect music on CD, vinyl, etc.?

If done as "tasting test" I see nothing wrong, if it substitutes the official release I don't accept it. Buying original products you will help and support the scene. With the "compulsive" downloadings you will slowly kill the scene.

18., Which musical release influeced You the most?

Too much to list them. it goes from band of the NSHC scene to mainstream bands, passing through non-hardcore albums

19., So, I think this was for now, thank You for taking time for the interview. If You have a message to our readers, feel free to tell it now! 😊

Thank you so much for supporting us, we hope you will enjoy and appreciate Live.Love.Burn.Die, we hope, sooner or later, to come to play by you in Hungary.
Take care of yourselves

Green Arrows
