Russia became the home of talented patriotic hardcore bands and it is not too easy to find out which group should we contact for an interview, there are so many good bands. A friend of our blog suggested to check Grimfire from Togliatti. Earlier I heard their debut album on the Right Hardcore Crew site and I purchased the 3rd volume of the Slavonic Hardcore sample series too, where the guys participated with one song and because I really liked what I heard, I decided to get in contact with Grimfire. Dmitry (the bassist) sent us a very friendly reply and he agreed to answer our questions. Here You can read our interview:
1., Salute! Please introduce us the band! When did You start the group? Who are the members?
Our band called GRIMFIRE, but actually first name was "Destroy the Weak", we thought that name should be short and renamed our band. It started around 3 years ago, me and my friend Anton decided to make the band as in Tolyatti was not so many bands that time. We just found bass guitarist and drummer who were our friends and started to write an album. It took us a lot of time because we needed something unusual for that time. We had a few concerts before we released our album. Then guys decided to left the band and i was alone. After that i found Nikita as i knew him and suggested to work with me. After that my another friend Vsevolod joined us as drummer, i became a bass guitarist and we found Roma who was a beginner guitarist for that momemt. We recorded our album and our single with this team, but later Vsevolod left our band and we invited Igor who is playing with us now.
2., I discovered Grimfire on the site of "Right Hardcore Crew" and I also have the 3rd part of "Slavonic Hardcore" series, therefore I think You have something to do with the NSHC scene. :) Is Grimfire a political band? Please describe Your views!
We play our songs for guys with the same ideas and they enjoy our music. On the scene and internet we try not to show our political views, we just want that people listen our music and understand ideas from our lyrics.
3., I saw on the demo the title "Togliatti hardcore". As far I know, the famous "Lada" car was/is manufactured there in the "ВАЗ" factory, so the city is a massive industrial center. Please tell us, how is the everyday life in an industrial city, like your home!
Earlier AVTOVAZ was the main factory there, almost everyone used to work here, but now it's nation factory and people who work there don't get so much money, it's became the worst job here. In our everyday life we don't hve anything with AVTOVAZ.
4., What do You do in Your private life?
In our private life we have different things, me and Roma study at university and work, Igor and Nikita just work. Our singer is a tanner so he does really interesting things. Also we do some sports, go to the gym and do music.
5., What is Your opinion on President Putin and on his regime? Is the life of Russian people better now? (Sorry for this boring question, I ask it from every Russian band, because in the West there are several people who think that Putin will be the saviour of Europe, therefore I'd like to hear the opinion of Russian people too.)
We think that Putin's politic directed to our political elite, it hurts our society.
6., Is the album "Твой выбор" the only release from Grimfire yet?
"Твой выбор" is our first release, after that we just reeased single "За спиной" you can find it on "Slavonic hardcore 3".
7., What is the reason behind You play beatdown HC? Do You like oldschool hardcore bands too?
Because we really love that style, hard riffs, breakdowns and culture of mosh. We love it since our youth and try to support that music. Yes, we love old bands like Black Flag, Madball, Hatebreed etc.
8., As my Russian is very poor, could You tell us some words on Your texts? What are they about?
Our lyrics about modern life, about modern political systems and problems in our society. We write about a fight between people and modern deseases, everyone should protect his family, friends and his home.
9., Which bands influenced Your style the most? What are Your personal favourites?
It's the bands like Terrorsphara, Rise of the Northstar and Russian bands like Dassler, Outlaw Heroes Standing, YOU MUST MURDER etc. With some of that band we have a friendship.
10., I often hear and see the slogen that "Hardcore is more than music". Do You agree with this? What is Your opinion on that?
Yes, it's more than music. It's the big family, unity wich connected with many ideas like Straight Edge, Hardline.
11., A lot of Russian bands are involved panganism nowadays. Are You interested in paganism? As Russian people always had a strong connection with the Pravoslav Church, what do average people think on paganism?
Yes, we support that idea, our singer Nikita is paganist. A lot of people now are not connected with churches.
12., Do You organise shows for Yourselves or are there any concert oragniser crews in Your area?
We have our support unity - Mosh Squad 63. These guys visit our concert, they are interested in our music and our ideas.
13., Do You have contacts in the Togliatti "mainstream" HC scene? Are they supportive with Your band?
In Tolyatti not so many hardcore bands nowadays. But we communicate with them, organise concerts ands fests with them if it's possible.

Yes, it's our friends. They support us and we support them.
15., Are You working now on new material currently? Or are there any plans for a new release on vinyl 7"/compilations/splits/etc. ?
We are working now with new album, it will be harder and more slowly, we don't think that it will be split.
16 ., I saw that some of You have straight edge tattoos. Does the band support the sxe lifestyle?
We support the idea of Straight Edge, but we are not SxE band, there are not all member a SxE. Our guitarist is vegan, so we support this idea too.
17., As a lot of sxe guys prefer martial sports, I'd like to know, if You do such sports? What is Your opinion on rightwing sportgroups like PPDM / Father Frost Mode ?
Martial sports are good and we are involved in it, but we don't want to comment these guys.
18., I think Your demo was only via download available, it was never released on CD. Do you support downloading music?
We work for idea. Hardcore is not for money. We are interested if a lot of people listen our songs free.
